New England Roots & Shoots welcomes Sally Sharp Lehman!

The Jane Goodall Institute announces the appointment of Sally Sharp Lehman of Lexington, Mass., as New England regional director of Roots & Shoots, its global youth outreach program. In this newly-created position, Sharp Lehman will be responsible for providing strategic direction for the growth of the Roots & Shoots youth network in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.

Founded in 1991 by Dr. Jane Goodall and a group of Tanzanian students, Roots & Shoots is about making positive change happen – for people, animals, and the environment. With more than 100,000 young people in nearly 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots network branches out across the globe connecting youth of all ages who share the common desire to make the world a better place.

“I am so excited about the potential for Roots & Shoots here in New England,” said Sharp Lehman. “We look forward to the opportunity to build and leverage partnerships with other organizations so that more young people can get involved in projects, can be part of a truly global community, and can know what it feels like to make a difference on both a local and a global scale.”

Sharp Lehman joins Roots & Shoots with extensive experience in both for-profit and nonprofit management most recently having served for eight years at Mass Audubon as regional director for Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket. As regional director at Mass Audubon, she was responsible for guiding and overseeing activities within the region including direct supervision of nine staffed sanctuaries, the development of new initiatives and resource development and allocation. At Mass Audubon, prior to becoming Regional Director, she was manager of capital campaigns for two years.

Previously, Sharp Lehman was a management consultant with Harbridge House, Inc. specializing in the areas of strategy, organizational effectiveness, and executive education. She has also worked with both the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies and Price Waterhouse. She holds a Master of Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in economics and French from Duke University.
